Note: It is highly recommended to book your entrance or tour tickets well in advance as the queues and the waiting time can get rather long and tedious. Visitors can save precious time by booking tickets in advance and booking online rather than buying them on the day, time that you can spend inside admiring all the beautiful artwork.

Versailles Opening Hours 2023

  • Mondays and May 1st are the only days that the store is closed.
  • Hours of operation: 9.00 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.
  • Admission closes at 6 p.m.
  • At 5.45 p.m., the ticket office closes.

Note: The palace is closed on May 1st.

How to Reach Versailles from Paris

By Train 

The Versailles Chateau Rive Gauche station, which is a 10-minute walk from the palace, is served by the RER C line. SNCF trains go to Versailles’ additional railway stations, Chantiers and Rive Droite, each a 20-minute walk from the palace, from Paris’ Montparnasse and St. Lazare stations.

By Bus 

Versailles Express is a daily transfer service that takes double-decker coach buses from the Eiffel Tower. It’s best if you buy your ticket at least 24 hours ahead of time.

By Car 

You may park at a paid area in front of the palace, the Place d’Armes if you choose to rent a car and drive yourself to take the Palace of Versailles tour. From the center of Paris, it’s roughly a 40-minute trip.

All guests above the age of 11 must wear masks (as per the governmental decree 2020-548 of 11 May 2020). It is required that visitors bring their own masks (no mask will be sold or distributed on-site).

4. Which locations on the Versailles tour from Paris are open to the public and free of charge?

  • The Coach Gallery, located in the Great Stables of the Palace of Versailles, is open from 12.30 pm to 5.30 pm (in Low Season) or 12.30 pm to 6.30 pm (in High Season) (in High Season). There is no need to purchase a ticket because admission is free.
  • Except during Musical Fountains Show and Musical Gardens days, the gardens are also free. During the High Season (March 31 to October 31, 2018), entry to the gardens is paid during Musical Fountains Show and Musical Gardens days (Tuesdays, Fridays, weekends, and national holidays), except for children under the age of six. Currently, 15 groves are available to the public on a limited basis. (Entrance is included with the Passport and 2-day Passport tickets.)
  • The Park is free to enter and open every day of the year.
